According to the industry experts present at the first “Energy Storage” conference, held this week in Düsseldorf, Germany, either technology could win the race to enable Germany’s renewable energy future.
“It is feasible to use Norway’s vast hydro resources as a storage solution for balancing Germany’s solar and wind power surpluses based on projections to 2030,” asserted Atle Harby, SINTEF Energy Research. He made the statement as he presented the results of his research team’s simulations of the impact of storing surplus solar and wind energy from Germany in Norway’s hydro pumped storage.
