“ The potential for electric vehicles has stimulated hundreds of companies to jump at the challenge of improving battery technology. Like the bulky original cellphones and tissue-box-sized calculators, batteries will shrink in size, increase in performance and drop in price.” Jack Gillis, Consumer Federation of America
Any number of electric vehicle (EV) proponents argue that battery technology should improve rapidly, pointing to the example of computers and consumer electronics, as the quote above shows, where performance has improved by orders of magnitude. This is a totally inappropriate comparison, and demonstrates primarily the scientific ignorance of those relying on it. Cell phones move information in the form of electrons, not power.
